The YES program is KISU's training group for athlete's with physical and intellectual disabilities. The water allows these athletes a freedom that many never experience on land. The Canadian and International Swimming Associations have a well-developed program to allow these athletes to participate and compete with one another.In order to train, many of these swimmers need assistance in the water and/or on the deck. Mel Zajac Swim Meet Brain MacPhail, Julia Veidt and Payton Nackoney were at UBC last weekend for the Mel Zajac swim meet. They all swam well, with many best long-course times, and improved their rankings. One of the biggest highlights of this meet was watching finals, even though KISU swimmers were not swimming. The Australian and Korean teams included a number of Olympic swimmers, as did the US and Canadian teams.
